Georgia O’Brien
Georgia O’Brien grew up in a musical family. She began performing with her family’s intergenerational Celtic band at the age of seven; since then music has been a vital part of her life. Georgia has studied violin, viola, and piano and loves exploring new and unusual instruments, from the hammered dulcimer to the bowed psaltery.
A graduate of Grand Valley State University (B.A. Elementary Education), Ms. O’Brien has been working with children and their families for ten years. She has worked with children of all ages and abilities, in classrooms and in homes. She specializes in working with children with special needs and has future plans to pursue a Master’s Degree in Special Education, with an emphasis on Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Georgia’s passion for teaching and music came together when she was introduced to the Music Together program. This program was developed by the Center for Music and Young Children and uses the latest research about how children develop musically. Based on the premise that every child is inherently musical, Music Together has been a pioneer in the field of early childhood music education since 1987. Georgia completed Music Together’s intensive training and is now a registered Music Together teacher.
Georgia began teaching Music Together classes at Sterling Studios and later founded her own Music Together center, Friday’s Child. She recently moved her classes to Traverse Community Music with the mission of providing Music Together’s incredible program to the families of the Grand Traverse area.
