Lisa Johansson is the founder and director of Northwind Flute Studio and Syrinx Flute Choir, a music studio dedicated to the fine art of flute and music making. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Kent State University, where she also studied art and design. For 31 years she has taught the flute to students in the Benzie, Leelanau, Manistee and Grand Traverse areas and taught elementary music at The Children’s House in Traverse City for ten years.
Lisa is a recording and performance artist with the renowned music group, Song of the Lakes. She has brought her energetic and engaging playing and singing with the group to a wide variety of audiences at concert halls, civic events, music festivals, and schools across the U.S., Canada, Switzerland, and Sweden. Through the Michigan Council of the Touring Arts, Michigan Council for the Humanities, and private foundations, she and her band mates provide musical education and appreciation of the life on and around the Great Lakes as their mission and passion. Her discography includes seven recordings.
LESSONS & CLASSES OFFERED: Private Flute, Piccolo, Penny Whistle, and Recorder lessons and Flute Choir. Children and Adults of all Ages and Levels are Welcome. Lisa also teaches “Music Making for Little Ones,” a class for young children and their parents.
All aspects of flute-playing and music making of the flute family are explored and studied in a nurturing and caring studio. Lessons focus on skills leading to the production of a beautiful tone, proper hand and body position, embouchure and articulation technique.
Students in the studio study a variety of classical, jazz, folk and pop styles in solos and ensemble music. Students studying in the Northwind studio establish a solid ability of ear training, music theory, performance, musicality and joyful ensemble work.
