Mattt picMatt Sharp began playing guitar at the age of eleven.  Over the next seven years, he continued his studies, including ear training skills.  After high school, he attended the Musicians Institute in California, where he received his Player’s Certificate.  Music theory, ear training, private lessons, and improvisation classes gave him the music foundation and experience that he uses to teach and perform.

Matt started performing in a band when he was twenty.  Performance styles have included oldies, classic, modern country, blues, modern rock, pop, and metal styles.  One of Matt’s favorite techniques is melodic solo guitar.  He particularly enjoys the tone of distorted single note lines, which remind him of the sound of a violin being played.

Matt lives and breathes music,  any and every kind.  From Bach to Tom Petty, to Metallica,  R & B, and Funk, he loves it all.  His enthusiasm is part of his teaching style and makes learning fun.

When Matt is not teaching, he enjoys regular gigging with his band Paper Plane Pilots.
